The Company
FREE Bionics is a start-up company which spun off from ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute, the national leading institute developing robotic technology in Taiwan). We are a team composed of professional engineers and physiotherapists which enables us to develop user-friendly exoskeleton products.
By supporting or enhancing human strength and mobility, we aimed to increase global working population and human potential. We provide various exoskeleton products and solutions to make people’s life easier and better.
The Challenge
Safety is our priority when it comes to product development. However, the application process of medical certificates and the requirements of clinical trials usually takes months or years to accomplished. The challenge therefore is the time pressure of responding to users’ needs.
We are eager to bring our technology to help as many people as we could. However, one or two products and technologies are not enough to create a barrier-free environment for everyone. FREE Bionics is working on "developing a total solution", and we hope that we can have more partners to join us!
The Solution
Aiming to enhance human’s mobility, FREE Bionics is dedicated to developing exoskeleton technology as the solution. We adopt attitude sensor, Human Factor Engineering, AI Algorithm, wireless control and integrated those techniques in our exoskeleton products. FREE Walk is our first innovative product which assists spinal cord injury patients and individuals with lower limb weakness to perform stand, walk, and functional training. In the meanwhile, another new product, KneeBO, the single joint exoskeleton is ready to be launched. KneeBO could help individuals with stroke or joint problems to increase muscle endurance and strength. It could also be applied in a wide range of indications. With the hope of providing various solutions to enhance human strength, we are currently applying KneeBO in different fields.
The Opportunity

About FREE Walk
1.Easy to put on and take off
Robot’s legs can be opened up to 90 degrees. Users can put on and take off the device easily, which further support user’s independence.
2.Adjustable torso fitting design.
Adjustable torso fitting design support mechanisms further increases the stability for the users.
3.Gapped joint design
It is designed to retain muscle and joint activity space, making the device more comfortable to wear while prevents pressure sores for the users.
4.Slimmer back sturcture
The design made balance shift easily, which enables users to walk smoothly.
5.Ankle sagging prevention design
Mimic the human ankle both for protection and for ankle sagging prevention.
6.Weight inclination design
Overall stability is enhanced.
7.Safe and convenient for the users
Controller embedded crutches for easy control as well as safty.
Enables effortless control by the users while maintain the balance.
